Meet Christopher
Hey Everybody!
Here are a couple of things you should know about me:
I’m fascinated by the human body and sport.
I’m driven to boost human potential through adventure and exercise.
I’m a nerd (I absorb research on any topic my mind wanders to).
I’m a carpenter, and I build custom campervans.
I’m a happy soul that loves people and music.
My name is Christopher Havens, and I am a Co-founder of Penny Project Fitness. I am originally from a small town in Tennessee. Growing up in the country, some of my favorite activities were fishing, hunting, camping with friends, and teasing my younger twin sister, Christen. As adults, my sister and I are still very close despite living several states away from each other. Being the older of the two of us by 3 minutes, I still enjoy telling her what I did when I was her age…
When I was 6-years-old, I started swim lessons, and that is when my love of endurance sports began. By age 10, I was competing in triathlons, and once I got to high school I was fully committed. All I did was practice. It’s no wonder that after high school, even though I was given the opportunity to swim in college, I turned it down to have my own adventure away from the pool deck.
I moved to Marblehead, Massachusetts after high school to spend a summer working with my uncle, but one summer quickly and unexpectedly became 10 years. I enjoyed immersing myself with the large part of my extended family that I had not spent a lot of time with before. After 4 years of living in New England, I found myself back on the pool deck, but now as a coach.
Being a coach inspired me to learn more about the human body. I found myself in a very unique position when I went back to school. I had never fully applied myself to academics before, and I found that I loved learning and began to unwrap my potential in the academic world. I learned so much about myself; I learned I love research, and I became inspired to conduct my own. By the time I graduated I had become a fully developed nerd. I racked up a dean’s list GPA every semester, graduated magna cum lade, and even received the New England ACSM Undergraduate Research Award. This was accompanied by the opportunity to present at the annual New England ACSM Conference in Rhode Island.
Christopher currently works for his own company, Penny Projects LLC, where he does carpentry, handyman, and custom van builds.
