As a RacquetFit certified USPTA tennis coach, I have used RacquetFit techniques to help improve my clients’ serves. I have also applied these same techniques as the Head Salem State Women’s Tennis Coach, and even to my own serve. Although there is no single perfect serve, there are techniques that are considered more biomechanically sound, or more efficient for your body. In other words, it may help you serve better for longer.

Benefits of the RacquetFit Screen:

My educational background is in athletic training, and that side of me can see a great advantage for tennis players that utilize the RacquetFit Serve Screen.  If you indulge even the slightest into the tennis world, you will quickly become aware that tennis players are prone to overuse injuries.  The high velocity and repetition of tennis strokes--particularly the serve--can be a cause of overuse injuries throughout the entire body.

From an athletic training standpoint, molding a more efficient serve and addressing imbalances with corrective exercise has the potential to lower the risk for overuse injuries.  In addition, the entire screen and exercise prescription can be completed at home with a computer, a chair, your tennis racquet, and tennis balls.  We want you to improve your tennis serve, so we make it as convenient as possible for you to do so.

What is a RacquetFit Serve Screen?

A RacquetFit Serve Screen consists of 12 physical movements that highlight the body's ability to efficiently perform a tennis serve, known as the “Body-Tennis Connection.” For example, the ability to twist the torso, or thoracic rotation, is tested in one of the movements, because this is very important for the loading phase and follow through phase of the serve.  If you watch nearly any professional tennis player, you will notice an efficient thoracic rotation during their serve.  If a body cannot efficiently rotate the torso, it will be difficult to generate rotational core power during the service motion.  Without proper thoracic rotation, a tennis player may lose power and spin on her serve.  The RacquetFit Serve Screen is based on this “Body-Tennis Connection.”
